On 14th February, a team presented the lab’s work at Newcastle High School for Girls’ enthralling ‘We Love STEM’ event, appropriately timed for Valentine’s Day.

Pupils ranging from 11-18, and a number of their parents, interacted with our iLimb hand using muscle activity. We measured electromyography (EMG) signals from the hands and forearm and used these to manipulate the prosthetic hand into positions depicting the popular Rock-Paper-Scissors game. We also used a Backyard Brains spiker box to show how muscle signals could be recorded from the arm and presented them with the mobile app Spike Recorder.
