SEALab was created from >£1M investment in facilities including a purpose built anechoic testing tank, numerous acoustic transducers, hydrophones and arrays, high power amplifiers, signal conditioning and data acquisition units. The lab also has state of the art simulation and circuit design software and access to facilities for circuit and underwater housing construction. The team has access to Newcastle University’s research vessel RV Princess Royal, which is frequently used for acoustic experiments in the North Sea, and is currently installing a long term hydrophone array off the North Sea coast with wireless data streaming back to the University network.
